Update – 11 December 2014

These next tunnel entrances I discovered as a result of several witnesses comments of a tunnel near the stairs that went from the hairpin bend up to the Navy compound on top of the hill and various other reports. I had spent many hours looking for signs of this tunnel entrance in the photographs and although I had found possibilities, there was nothing I would call most definite. Recently whilst looking over the photos, I couldn’t believe my eyes!  Here it was....

When  I perused other photos, I came across another that was very interesting. It appears in 1913 that this tunnel was much larger!




This tunnel entrance looks very similar to the entrance shown on the other side of the hill in another photo shown previously on this site - Page 5

These next two photos show another interesting thing in that it appears there may be at least     


another large entrance on another level above this one. What the white object in the 1913 photo is I don’t know, but I suspect it is a shed although I don’t at this point of time any photos to confirm this. There is a shed shown roughly in this position in 1950  - but only for that year ....nothing there in the 1942 photos and it was gone by 1952.











There was a footpath linking the top of the stairs to the summit in 1942 and also gone in 1950. You will see this footpath in photos next page. In at least one of the photos there appeared to be some sort of vehicle track leading from the top of the stairs up towards this large tunnel entrance but it is not of a high enough resolution to confirm this. With a shed there sometime after 1942 until  before 1952, then it is logical to believe that this is quite possible.
