This Site is dedicated to all those families of the people that have tragically disappeared on flights in and around New Zealand. I  only hope that from all the effort in building this site and from all the effort of those taking part in this venture, that it will bear fruit in bringing ‘closure’ to their memories!

When you take into account the two very good sightings of the Father and Son’s, this sighting is very obviously of the same plane as it came down past the Berrico Trig Station although the timing is a bit early... but she did say “around”. Why she thought it was circling I guess was because she saw it coming towards her as it crossed the Berrico Ridge, then turned south and then appeared to turn west as this would have been a necessary turn to hold the plane from drifting further east due to the wind. The “very low” would be because it was below the height of the ranges from her observation point. Note her mention of seeing the Landing Lights.

Jesse Miller – John Davis / Stratford

Initially, I thought Jesse had got east and west mixed up as in another note, he said this Report confirmed the F&S Reports (that were to the west of Stratford), but later it occurred to me that it was also possible that John Davis meant flying in the general direction towards the east ... but at the same time was flying in a southerly direction (i.e. SE).
From Crowthers Road, Stratford, (not sure where on that road – shown as a pink line in the image below) the course plotted from the descriptions given in the Father and Son Reports, would appear as such to John Davis and the last 40 seconds of that course would mean that he saw it from about a line between himself and F&S #1 position before it dropped behind the hills. Whether he meant “dropped behind” - as in descended, or “disappeared behind”.. who knows? I get the impression that when Mike turned towards WLM after crossing the Berrico Ridge, he was able to see the lights of the town of Craven, but was still descending to the point where the next range to the east obscured his vision of those lights, so at that point has turned the nose of the plane more westwards to try to avoid being blown into them and hence why the F&S’s saw the Landing Lights shining on the ground around them.

Don Readford / Operation Phoenix – Jennifer and Jean Wilton /Nebo

Note again seeing the Landing Lights... and unusual event to see, and aptly mentioned in this instance.
Leah Mullin has spoken to this lady on more than one occasion and was told that Jennifer and Jean first saw this plane coming around the eastern (seaward) side of Big Ben Mountain. I don’t know how much of these reports were word for word of the Police Reports as there is the obvious comment of the time being in agreement of Mrs Boydell’s Report. In all the years I have been involved with the times given by eye-witnesses, I’ve found the majority of them to be inaccurate. As I often say, “It needs to be
